How to Propose at Christmas Town USA in McAdenville

Every December, McAdenville becomes Christmas Town USA. The trees glow. The lake shines. Carols ring over Main Street. We live and work here. We see the lights every night of the season. We also see the proposals. This guide is for the person holding the ring.

When the lights are on

The lights run December 1 through December 26. They come on at 5:30 each night. They turn off at exactly 10:00.

The tree lighting is December 1 at 5:30. The Yule Log Parade is December 10. Both nights are joyful. Both nights are crowded. Choose another night for your question.

Choose a weeknight

Go Monday through Thursday if you can. Weekends bring heavy traffic. Crowds fill the sidewalks.

Arrive before 5:00. Parking is easier. The sun sets around 5:15. The sky holds a soft blue as the lights come on. That blue hour makes the best photographs.

Where to park and walk

Public parking sits off Poplar Street and Elm Street. More spaces wait at McAdenville Elementary School. There is also a lot behind the Dynamo 31 building.

Skip Hickory Grove Road and Riverside Drive. Parking is not allowed there. Never park on the side of a road. Your GPS may try Hickory Grove Road. Choose another route.

Walk the loop. It runs about 1.3 miles. Stay on the sidewalks. The decorated homes are private. Please stay off the lawns.

Three quiet places for the question

The lake by Dynamo 31. This is the quietest corner near Main Street. Lit trees float on the water. The fountain catches the light. Stand near the edge. Face your partner toward the water.

Under the bells. The bells play carols each night. Time your question to a song you both love.

In front of the Stowe mansion. This is our favorite spot in town. Large old trees frame the lawn. The landscape glows around you. Enjoy it from the sidewalk.

Keep it simple

Wear warm layers. Cold hands shake. Bring gloves you can slip off.

Keep the ring in a front pocket. Not the coat you might take off.

Tell one friend the plan. Not the whole group chat.

Have dinner after, not before. Nerves and a big meal do not mix. Main Street fills up in December. Plan where you will celebrate.

Bring the dog if your partner would want it. Leashes are required. The dog may steal the moment. That is fine.

Should you hire a photographer?

Phone photos at night are hard. The lights are bright. The faces go dark. The moment blurs.

A photographer solves this. We blend into the crowd. We look like another couple walking. You make the plan. We stay out of sight.

We light faces softly. The trees keep glowing behind you. You get the look on their face. You get the first hug. You get the walk after.

Planning a surprise? Tell us. We will plan the quiet parts with you.

After the yes

Enjoy the night. Call your families. Do nothing else.

The wedding can wait a week. When you are ready, start with one question. What do you want the day to feel like?

Already engaged?

Join us for a Christmas Town engagement session. Thirty minutes under the lights. Hot cocoa first. Your first images by text that night. Sessions start at $390. See the December dates.
